A rectifier is a device that turns alternating currents into direct currents. AC, or alternating currents flow in both directions. Periodically, the electric charge reverses direction. AC currents is a form of current that is delivered to business and residences. The most common form is power given to appliances, televisions, and other electrically powered items. A direct current, or DC only flows in one direction. A direct current is produced by power supplies, lie batteries or solar cells. Direct currents may flow through conductors like wires, and semiconductors.
Two types of rectifiers exist. They are called a half wave, full wave. Half wave rectifiers are made with one diode. A diode is a semiconductor device that allows the flow of current in on direction. A full rectifier is made of two half waves and made with two diodes. Rectifiers have many uses and can take on a number of forms. They can be used as detectors of elements. This can include detectors of radio signals, and detectors of flames in gas heating systems. Rectifiers can also be used in televisions and computer equipment. They are mainly used in conjunction with power supplies and electronic filters.
